I make these for my family every Valentine’s Day and it has become a family tradition. They’re super easy and kids love to help cut out the puff pastry. These hearts are light, airy and delicious any way you serve them.
½ lb fresh strawberries, washed and sliced
2 Tbsp sugar
½ c. whipping cream
Powdered sugar to taste + extra for sifting on top
1 box of puff pastry
Chocolate sauce (for drizzling)
Thaw the puff pastry according to directions on box. Once thawed, preheat your oven to 400 F. Unfold the thawed dough on a lightly floured surface and use a rolling pin to make the rectangle a little larger and smooth out the folds. Use your cookie cutter to cut the dough and place about 1” apart on prepared baking sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
Wash and slice strawberries, sprinkle with sugar and lightly toss. Set aside.
Use a mixer to whip the heavy cream and 1 Tbsp powdered sugar until stiff peaks form, about 1 minute. Add more sugar to taste. For the best whipped cream, chill your mixing bowl in your freezer first.
Once cooled, split the hearts in half. Layer the bottom heart with whipped cream, a spoonful of the prepared strawberries, another dollop of whipped cream and then the top half of the heart. Top with the whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate sauce or more strawberries. Serve with ice cream.
